04 January –  In another example of bilateral cooperation between the,m the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Manila and the Philippine Embassy in Prague again found themselves in the front and center of the 11th FilmAsia Festival in Prague in December December 2015.  The festival, which was started in 2005 and which this year was held at both the Lucerna and Svetozar Theaters, amply demonstrated yet again that these two embassies are indeed carrying opposite ends of the same load.

Ambassadors Vic Lecaros of the Philippines and Jaroslav Olsa, Jr. of the Czech Republic opened the Festival, which started off with a screening of the 1950’s classic film “Genghis Khan” by the acclaimed late Filipino Director Manuel Conde.

This year’s Festival featured the Philippines together with the Festival’s main stay film offerings from South Korea, Japan and China.

The 11th FilmAsia Festival also presented for the first time six Filipino feature films in two theaters.  Also shown were Darna at Ding (1980), Dekada ‘70 (2002),  and the three independent films co-produced by the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP): Lihis (2013), Sonata (2013), and Badil (2013).

According to the Festival’s director and producer Karla Stojáková, FilmAsia, the premier Asian film festival in the Czech Republic.  Thus, it provides “Czechs a glimpse of the best of what Asian cinema can offer”.  END
