The Philippine Embassy-led campaign of “It’s More Fun in the Philippines” in the Czech Republic opened to a highly-enthusiastic crowd of Czech travel and tour professionals and agencies at Holiday World 2020, the biggest tourism trade fair in the Czech Republic, at PVA Expo Praha on 13 February 2020.

Even prior to the fair’s formal opening, industry professionals and agency representatives flocked to the Philippine stand to get to know the destinations they could offer to their customers in the Czech Republic.

Before the end of the first day of the exhibition, more than 30 tourism professionals and tour agencies, including print and broadcast media representatives, visited the 12-square meter Philippine stand which featured Palawan and Bohol destinations as designed by the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) of the Philippines. The first two days of the fair – 13 and 14 February 2020 - were reserved for the tourism industry professionals and travel agencies, and the last two days, for the general public.

The Philippine Embassy intends to increase tourist arrivals from the Czech Republic to the Philippines through participation in fairs and exhibitions such as Holiday World. Last year, there were more than 30,000 visitors to the said tourism trade fair.

The Philippine Embassy’s tourism campaign in the Czech Republic is supported by the Office of European Affairs and Office of Strategic Research and Communications of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Philippine Retirement Authority, Tourism Promotions Board of the Philippines, Department of Tourism-Frankfurt, and the Filipino Community in the Czech Republic. Sinulog

Ambassador Ombra T. Jainal led the Philippine Embassy in joining the Filipino community in celebrating Sinulog in Prague at the Church of St. Thomas on 19 January 2020.

In his brief speech, the Ambassador thanked the Filipino community in keeping the Filipino tradition and culture alive, and that regardless of distance, their faith in God and community remains true and strong.

The Sinulog is an annual cultural and religious feast of the Catholic community held every third Sunday of January in the Philippines. The dance ritual is in honor of the Child Jesus or Santo Nino, whose image was a baptismal gift to Reyna Hara Amihan, the wife of Raha Humabon, of Sugbu (now Cebu) in 1521.

Along with the Filipino diaspora, the Sinulog is continuously celebrated in cities with a large number of Filipinos. In Prague, Filipinos from Italy and Austria joined the growing number of Filipinos in the Czech Republic to celebrate the feast.
